Stud Focused Equine Veterinary Assistant Role.

4 - 6 months from January 2027-June 2027.

We are recruiting for a hands-on stud medicine role working with a great team of experienced vets for the 2027 stud season.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic equine veterinarian to join our 6-vet team for a 4 – 6 month role based near Salisbury. This role will have a strong focus on thoroughbred stud work. It is an excellent opportunity to develop practical skills, gain confidence in reproductive medicine, and work alongside experienced equine clinicians during the busy breeding season. Previous vets in this role have become long term members of the team and also undertaken Southern Hemisphere stud seasons.

We are a forward-thinking practice that is part of the Altano group. We aim to provide the best possible service to our clients so invest in high quality (battery x-ray units / gastroscope / ultrasound scanners / shockwave / laser / dental equipment, facilities for IRAP/PRP etc) equipment. We have a hospital level laboratory on site and have an amazing office team to support the practice.

About the role

Working closely with our experienced veterinarians, you will be involved in all aspects of stud medicine as well as routine care. The position will allow you to develop your clinical skills in the following areas:

  • Mare reproductive examinations and breeding management
  • Pregnancy diagnosis and reproductive ultrasonography
  • Routine herd health and preventative medicine
  • Newborn foal checks
  • Foal medicine
  • General ambulatory equine practice
  • 1 in 5 on call with support from another vet

About you

  • Passionate about equine practice and clinical excellence
  • A strong interest in reproduction and stud medicine. Previous experience beneficial
  • May have completed an internship and looking to develop ambulatory/stud skills
  • Would also suit an experienced vet looking for a short term role
  • Eager to learn with a positive attitude
  • A team player
