Full-Time Equine Vetenarian –South-East Queensland – Anstead/Marburg

WestVETS Equine Hospital is seeking a passionate, dedicated Full-Time Equine Veterinarian to join our team. This position is available due to one of our associates pursuing a residency in sports medicine and rehabilitation.

Ideal Candidate

  •        Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience or a recent internship in equine veterinary practice.
  •         Career Goals: Looking for long-term fulfilment with a diverse caseload, and a desire for professional development with mentorship in surgical, medical, reproductive, and lameness cases.
  •         Skills: Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for high-quality veterinary care.
  •         Team Player: Must thrive in a collaborative environment with like-minded professionals.
  •         Qualifications: Must hold a valid license to practice veterinary medicine in Queensland.
  •         Small Animal Experience: Not required but considered a plus for recent graduates.

Position

  •         Ambulatory first opinion practice with emphasis on performance dentistry and preventative health 
  •         Lameness consults
  •         Primary sport horse and geriatric consults
  •         Emergencies consisting of colic, chokes, ophthalmology, lacerations etc.
  •         Small ruminant caseload dependent on applicants comfort level
  •         After hours consists of hospital and ambulatory cases
  •    Access to endoscopy, digital radiography, ultrasound, gastroscopy, Equinosis lameness locator, dynamic endoscopy

  •      Through the Altano network, we have access to a worldwide network of specialists in different fields that host different learning opportunities. There are multiple Whatsapp groups, journal clubs and training modules offered to veterinarians within the Altano network.
  •       Altano offers access to VetPD online training and modules through the Altano network.
  •      Memberships: We encourage our veterinarians to pursue memberships in whatever field they are interested in and allow time for study.

·        CASELOAD

  •     We treat a variety of horses—from performance athletes to hobby horses—and also provide care for the RSPCA. We do not differentiate on the type of horses that we see and offer care to all types of animals.
  •      There is an opportunity for veterinarians to become involved in the sport horse community and pursue FEI accreditation.
  •        Additionally, a small ruminant caseload is available for both ambulatory and referral services.

FACILITIES

Our equine facilities include a surgical theatre, diagnostic area, hospitalisation and intensive care stables, reproduction laboratory and a purpose-built reproduction facility on 65 acres within a 30-minute drive from the equine hospital.

RENUMERATION

·        Competitive Salary: Above the industry award and commensurate with experience.

·        Work Schedule: 4 ½-day work week with flexible hours.

·        After-Hours: 1 in 4 after-hours commitments, with an after-hours bonus and a 4-day weekend in lieu for working weekends.

·        Continuing Education Allowance: Financial support for ongoing professional development.
