We are united by our passion for the welfare of animals. Together we create the best medical standards in an appreciative working atmosphere.

We are looking for an Equine veterinarian based in Örebro

About us:

Mälaren Equine Clinic is one of Sweden’s largest equine clinics, with multiple clinics. In Sigtuna (north of Stockholm), we have our main hospital with 24/7 emergencies, surgery, orthopaedic clinic and internal medicine department. We have a standing MRI system, and soon a CT. We offer ambulatory services from all our clinics. There are currently 35 veterinarians and 5 interns working alongside more than 40 vet nurses/assistants. We have European specialists in both surgery, internal medicine and ISELP-certified veterinarians that are available for consultation and referrals. Our clinic is part of the Altano-group which connects us to some of the leading equine veterinarians internationally.

We have a large case load (25 000 visits per year). The position we are offering is at our recently opened clinic in Örebro where we have room for 3 veterinarians with nurses currently but with space to grow.

The clinic in Örebro opened 2023 and is located at the race track for trotters. The caseload is mixed with sport horses, trotters and pleasure horses. The team consists of highly qualified veterinarians, nurses, a physiotherapist and a farrier. The majority of the cases are orthopaedic work-ups but we also do dentals, internal medicine examinations and some emergencies. The clinic is equipped with modern digital radiograph, ultrasound, endoscopy, focused shock-wave and we can do in-house blood analysis. We use orthobiologics such as IRAP, PRP, PRF and can add the objective gait analysis system Sleip as a complement during our lameness examinations. We hiring because of the increased case-load.

About our team and the benefits:

We work in teams with vets and assistants and have an open climate for sharing experience between vets and learning from each other. We have extensive education programme both within the organization and external sources. All our orthopaedic veterinarians are enrolled in the ISELP-programme and we work with VetPD who offer all their equine courses in Sweden at the hospital in Sigtuna.

We currently have several nationalities represented in our clinic. All veterinarians who doesn’t yet speak Swedish are urged to learn the language, even if most clients speak English. We offer help with language courses.

Your working hours are on a baseline schedule of 40 hours a week with free weekends. However, the work hours are not regulated, and therefore you have one extra week of paid vacation, in total 6 weeks annually. Your exact schedule will be decided together with the Clinic manager.

Sweden is one of the highest ranked countries in the world to live in in terms of quality of life. Attributes that often are mentioned is the beautiful nature, politically and financially stable society with very good social benefits. E.g. free schools, the public healthcare system and heavily subsidised kindergarten and benefits for working parents, and a well-educated population.

All our employed veterinarians are fully covered with accident-insurance from the start, and after a 6-month trial period a healthcare insurance will be signed.

Requirements:

  • Equine veterinarian with EU licence and at least 3-5 years of working experience. The work will mainly consist of orthopaedic/poor performance cases in sport horses and racing trotters. Veterinarians with less experience but highly motivated and dedicated to sport horse medicine are also encouraged to apply.
  • You need to be fluent in talking and writing English and willing to learn the Swedish language over time.
  • Driving license is required.
  • Education (e.g. Internship in sport horse medicine) is meriting, as well as mentorship with senior orthopaedic vet, and experience in working with lameness and poor performance.

Become part of a nice and motivated team and work with us for the welfare of animals!
